Joel Popadics is noted for his traditional approach to watercolor, in particular, his use of green, which has been passed down to him by a teacher who studied with the highly regarded American Impressionist painter and instructor Frank Vincent DuMond (1865 - 1951). He has adapted DuMond's principles and unique palette to his methods in watercolor, particularly DuMond's use of landscape green. Green is notoriously troublesome for many artists, but his approach makes it easy to understand and enables artists of all levels to mix convincing colors for their landscapes. In this workshop he will demonstrate how to achieve “a feeling of light and atmosphere” in a landscape. Techniques for creating clouds and skies will be explored, as well as how to handle all aspects of the landscape.

For over 30 years Joel has taught watercolor and drawing at the Ridgewood Art Institute in Ridgewood, NJ. He has taught workshops throughout the United States including Lake Tahoe, CA; Central Park, NYC; Rockport, MA; Acadia National Park; and Sandy Hook National Park, NJ among others. For the past five summers he has been an "Artist-in Residence" at Shelburne Farms in Shelburne, VT where he has conducted a weeklong Plein Air workshop. He’s also taught at Parsons School of Design and The King's College in New York City

Joel is the Vice-President of the American Watercolor Society (AWS) and a Past-President of the New Jersey Water Color Society. He’s been featured many times in American Artist, The Artist's Magazine, Watercolor Artist, and Watercolor Magic Magazines.

Joel Popadics received a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and has been a professional artist during his entire career. He is represented in some of the finest galleries in the Northeast and his watercolors are in exclusive private and public collections.
